I’m headed to Havana, Cuba at the beginning of February!! I can’t wait to be in a warm, historic city filled with vibrant colours, beautiful architecture, and so many sights and attractions. This will be my first vacation since starting my full time reporting job, so I’m really looking forward to kicking back.
This will be my second trip to the beautiful tropical country. I went to a resort in Cayo Coco with a few friends in 2017. It was a wonderful, fun, and relaxing experience involving a lot of beach lounging and late-night events. This time I’ll be focusing a bit more on cultural experiences and exploring Cuba’s biggest city.
I’m headed to Havana with my boyfriend, and we’re planning to stay at an Airbnb in historic Old Havana for most of the trip, with one additional night spent in Varadero, where we’ll be flying in an out of. That way we’ll have tons of time in the city to pack activities into, and also a couple of days dedicated to the beach.
Everyone who knows me is aware that almost everything I do is motivated by reading, so this trip wouldn’t really be complete unless I had a literary reason to go. In February, Havana hosts Cuba’s biggest cultural event: The Havana International Book Fair. The fair, which travels across the country, features various authors, publishers, and literary figures who convene in Havana to talk about all things literature. I’ll be covering the event in a series on my blog once I’m back.
I’ll also be writing and posting a travel guide for anyone thinking of traveling to Cuba - or Havana in particular - in the next year or so. I’ll explain how Wifi works, which apps to download before you go, which restaurants are the best, and how much money you’ll need for a week-long trip like mine.
Stay tuned for more to come on this trip!
